History
FreedomAir was named to honor the many men and women who tragically lost their lives in the attacks on September 11, 2001,
and the many heroes that have since responded to the call of duty. We aim to keep their memories alive.
Our founder's vision was to provide the community of flight simulator pilots with a virtually realistic environment in which to fly.
Freedomair was started in 2001 by a group of like minded folks on the "Official Flight Simulator Site 2" (MSN Groups). With membership
growing and a need for more options to accommodate the ever increasing online gatherings, we moved to our own MSN Group in 2003 and then to our own place on the web in 2005.
Our name was suggested just prior to our inagural online flight on September 25, 2001 by one of our charter members, FA007 George L. Our pilots began flying together online with
Microsoft Flight Simulatopr 2000 and used Roger Wilco for voice communication. When Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 entered the marketplace, we looked for ways to enhance the
multiplayer experience beyond what Microsoft and Roger Wilco had given us. To that end, we became beta testers for FSHost and moved voice communications to TeamSpeak. Today, we
host a JoinFS multiplayer server for online events along with a Discord server. We support pilots flying in FSX, FSX-SE, MSFS, P3D and XPlane. In 2011, we formed
Liberty Air Group. With plans of expansion, FreedomAir became a division of Liberty Air Group. In late 2017, we acquired LibertyAir VA and integrated the active LibertyAir pilots,
aircraft and routes into Liberty Air Group. Today, FreedomAir operates routes in the Americas and LibertyAir operates routes outside of North/Central/South America.
Liberty Air Group uses the ATC callsign "Liberty" for all FreedomAir and LibertyAir operations. Pilots are free to fly off-line, on our dedicated multiplayer server, on VATSIM or on IVAO.
